Andy Foote
Whale Biologist and Guide

Andy is a research scientist who has worked on a number of marine mammal research projects and has recently finished a research MSc on killer whale vocal behaviour at Durham University. He has presented at a number of international conferences and is currently writing a report for the National Marine Fisheries Service based on his MSc work. Previously Andy had worked in environmental monitoring after studying a Science and the Environment BSc. Andy’s involvement in cetacean projects has taken him to Greece, the Hebrides, Cardigan Bay, British Columbia, Washington State and Northern Norway to work on a diverse range of species including killer and minke whales, common and bottlenose dolphins and harbour porpoise. His interest in cetaceans has led him to whale watching trips in Iceland, the St Lawrence, Monterrey Bay, San Diego and Gran Canaria and made him familiar with a wide range of species.
Andy is also keen on educating the public about cetaceans and is on the board of scientific advisors for Killer Whale Tales, a school’s out-reach program that raises environmental awareness using killer whales as a focal species. He has most recently developing an education and interpretive centre on killer whales in Northern Norway. He is a qualified MMO and a PADI open water diver.
