Christy Harrington

Marine Biologist, Marine Mammal Observer and Guide

Christy is a marine biologist and wildlife naturalist with specialization in marine pollution contaminants.  She attended University of Oregon for her undergraduate work, frequently studying at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology on the Pacific Northwest coast.  In 2001, she traveled to Maui, Hawaii to assist in the research and photo-identification of the Pacific bottlenose, spinner and spotted dolphins and the short-finned pilot whales.  She received her Bachelor degree in marine biology and continued on to pursue her Masters degree in environmental science at University of Sydney in Australia.  During her graduate work, she spent time on Heron Island and the Great Barrier Reef as well as in Sydney Harbor studying various pollutants and their effect on the marine environment.  Christy has extensive experience with animal husbandry practices which began with equine health care in Michigan and continued onto marine mammal care in Florida that included Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, Florida manatees and Loggerhead turtles.  This has lead her back into academia in which she is currently pursuing her doctorate degree in Veterinarian Medicine.

While being a qualified MMO and PADI diver, Christy has also spend time teaching marine education to summer camp and elementary school groups all of which helps contribute to her avid outdoor lifestyle and her love for photography.
