Juliet Shrimpton
Marine Consultant, Observer and Guide

Juliet Shrimpton is a environmental Scientist with particular specialism in the marine environment. Graduating in 1996 in Environmental Science BSc she has been working in the marine field since 1996 in a variety of roles. These include overseas marine commercial consultancy work in Hong Kong, where Juliet studied the Indo Pacific hump-backed dolphin and the elusive finless porpoise. Juliet also worked on conservation projects in Nepal, on the Nepali river dolphin, and in Australia for the Marine National Parks Department. In 1999, Juliet completed a Masters degree in Marine Resource Development and Protection, Edinburgh and has subsequently been based largely in Scotland. Initially working for the Government conservation agency, Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), advising on aquaculture issues and latterly in the non profit sector as Biodiversity Officer for the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT) where Juliet coordinates HWDT’s current boat based cetacean research program.
Juliet has extensive experience of marine mammal survey techniques including passive acoustic monitoring and works as a Marine Mammal Observer during shipboard seismic surveys for the oil industry. Practically, Juliet is very happy on the water, she is a confident sailing crew member and competent zodiac driver. She spent the 2004/2005 season working as Naturalist guide onboard an expedition vessel in the Antarctic, this included guest lecturing, guiding ashore and zodiac driving. She is also a BSAC diver, trained ROV operator, and a keen, but amateur, photographer.
