Luiza is a biologist conducting her Master
studies on humpback whale
photo-identification in Brazil. She has
being working in the Marine Mammal field
since 2000 through the Brazilian Coast,
Caribbean and Antarctic waters. She has
worked as a Marine Mammal Observer in
Eucalyptus barges, aerial surveys and
research cruises.
From
2002 to 2005 she worked as the chief
researcher on a project focusing mainly on
the humpback whale at the Abrolhos Bank,
Brazil, which considered to be the main
breeding ground of this species in the
Southwestern Atlantic Ocean. She was also a
member of the South Georgia Expedition,
which spent almost two months conducting
cetacean surveys aboard the Kotic II
sailing boat around South Georgia Island in
2006.
Passionate about marine life, she enjoys the
life on board, polar expedition history and
is a keen amateur photographer.
