Nathan Gricks
Consultant Ecologist and Marine Specialist

Nathan Gricks is an English lawyer turned ecologist. He has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Ecology, his academic work centring upon the cetaceans of the St. Lawrence, Canada and the Risso’s dolphins of the Azores archipelago. Having spent his childhood in and around boats in the United Kingdom, Nathan is a keen sailor and has crewed on a sloop crossing the Atlantic Ocean. His love of the outdoors has led to a lifelong interest in the natural world, and he is now an ardent conservationist - the plight of the world’s oceans is of particular concern to him. His interest in natural history has taken Nathan on lengthy tours to many far-flung destinations, from Gambia to Thailand, from Tierra del Fuego to Newfoundland. He is especially interested in marine mammals and seabirds. A keen whale-watcher, Nathan has visited all the continents in search of cetaceans. He has given many illustrated lectures and written a book on whale watching in the West Indies, having spent extended periods studying cetaceans there. With training and experience in law, Nathan has developed his knowledge of conservation legislation and policy.
His work as a consultant has included terrestrial and offshore ecological surveys, as well as advising energy companies on environmental impacts. Recent fieldwork has taken him from Scotland to the Gulf of Mexico and west Africa. Nathan is a qualified Zodiac driver and scuba diver. He has co-led eco-tours to the Azores & Canada, and guided in the Antarctic region in search of marine wildlife. He enjoys real ale, archery, biking and running and currently lives in Norwich, England.
